Nestled among hundreds of acres of forest the 20 acre farm is located in historic southwestern Spotsylvania county in central Virginia. Just about 2 hours south of the Nation's Capital - Washington DC and an hour from Charlottesville and the Virginia state Capital of Richmond the farm is a convenient drive from the hustle and bustle of "modern civilization."

The
farm is located on a secluded tract of land, the property is heavily
wooded with mostly deciduous oaks and scattered pines. The property
has a gentle roll to it and is surrounded on all sides by quiet
forest. A large variety of wild animals make their home here
including deer, foxes, turtles, frogs, toads, hawks, owls and more.
It is a pleasure to be able to see these animals in their natural
environment. There is a small stream at the rear of the property and
plenty of space to expand the farm on all sides.
Only a short 15 minute drive away is the Wilderness Battlefield where over 200 years ago the Confederate and Union forces bitterly struggled against one another. The farm land is rich in Civil War history, walking through the woods is a bit like walking back in time.
The farm was founded in February 2009 when I purchased the property. The farm house had been foreclosed and needed quite a bit of work to get it habitable again. While much improved from its original state the house is still a "work in progress."
There are a variety of outbuildings and barns on the property for both storage and livestock use. Small portions of the property are permanently fenced with pasture board and field fencing, the rest of the property is fenced with temporary electric paddocks that can be moved and rotated as needed to provide the goats and other livestock with adequate browse.
We are slowly clearing portions of the land for future garden and pasture space. We do as much land clearing as we possible can naturally and by hand. Small areas are fenced off and the goats and pig are run through first, followed by the chickens and then mature trees are harvested as needed. This approach preserves the top soil and mulches the land without leaving a massive carbon foot print.
Our primary interest in livestock and poultry is the rare and heritage breeds of the world, by raising these unique animals we hope to preserve them for future generations to enjoy. We do our best to ensure they are well cared for and live as natural of a lifestyle as possible.
