You never know when a loved one might slip away forever. The photo below is the very last photo I took of Pepper on Monday afternoon. This is the view from my sewing room and it just won't be the same without Pepper in it from now on.

Yesterday we said a very sudden and unexpected goodbye to our ten year old Pit Bull Pepper. She was an athlete, a firecracker, and absolutely loved everyone. She lived every moment of her life with a smile on her face and never once had a bad day. Her attitude is one I hope to learn to emulate more.
Having worked for many years as an emergency and critical care licensed veterinary technician I have held the paw of many dogs who have passed away, it is always sad and particularly devastating when that paw belongs to a pup you've loved for so long. Pepper collapsed suddenly at breakfast and despite immediately beginning CPR I was unable to resuscitate her. Because she passed away without any warning signs we elected to have a necropsy performed to hopefully bring us some closure.
Below are a variety of photos of Pepper doing what she loved. I'm sure she's happily chasing a lure over the bridge with all of the other pit bulls we've loved and lost over the years.
