A Video Tour of our Rabbitry! Our rabbits are housed in a barn that was built just for them. Our barn is fully insulated, with electricity and A/C, we do not heat the building as it rarely gets below freezing inside the barn due to the insulation. A/C is vital during hot, humid Virginia summers to keep the bunnies cool and comfortable. Our rabbits are fed Purina Rabbit Show Formula and receive unlimited amounts of mixed grass hay, we minimize using grain based supplements except as treats. We do feed lots of fresh herbs and veggies from the garden during harvest seasons. All rabbits have access to fresh water through Lixit water bottles, we are planning to convert to a flex tube auto watering system soon. A hygienic environment is very important and we spot clean on a daily basis, and do a thorough once a week overhaul. Every spring the wire cages are pressure washed and the hare hutches are thoroughly disinfected. We have two permanent stalls inside a spare barn where the rabbits are exercised year round, no matter the weather. One of the stalls has an outside play yard the rabbits can access when the weather is nice. Along with the stalls the rabbits are exercised outdoors in a variety of playpens and some are trained to walk on leashes. Several of our Rhinelanders and Hares are being trained to do "bunny agility and rabbit hopping." We try to maintain smaller numbers in order to make sure each rabbit gets lots of individual attention, all baby bunnies are handled from birth to ensure good temperaments and outgoing personalities. We cull heavily for health and our breeding program's number one goal is to produce healthy rabbits. |
